The 49ers are on a six-game winning streak, but they’ll have to keep the momentum rolling without Arik Armstead for the time being.
The San Francisco 49ers have designated the defensive tackle as out for Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16. Armstead has missed the last two games owing to foot and knee problems. With no access to the practice field for several weeks, time is beginning to work against him and the Red & Gold this season.
“Yes, we’re concerned,” said 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan of Armstead’s injuries. “We believe he has a chance each week, but I’d say it’s more about the foot than the knee.” Something that has worried him for a while. I’m simply hope the agony goes away.”
Arik Armstead, 30, has a history of lower-body issues, having missed half of the 2022 season due to plantar fasciitis. That ailment might repeat, and Shanahan believes the 2023 version will be comparable to last season.
Before getting ill, the Sacramento native was having a good season, with 27 combined tackles and five sacks in 12 games. He also has 13 QB hits and is the best inside run defender on the 49ers.
Starting DT is back in the lineup.
The 49ers’ injury news was not all negative this week, with DT Javon Hargrave labeled as questionable for Christmas Eve.
Hargrave has been out since Week 14 after suffering a hamstring strain against the Seattle Seahawks. Due to the injury, he was forced to miss his first game of the season in Week 15, leaving the Red & Gold extremely short-handed.
Now that he’s been out for two weeks, the South Carolina native appears to be on track to return for the 49ers’ Week 16 game.
“He did a good job.” Today he was able to get that out there. Today I got the most work done, but it was just walk-through. So he’s still suspect,” Shanahan continued.
