Manning joined Oxford in March, taking Karl Robinson’s place. At the time, the U’s were five points above the relegation zone in 17th place. Since then, the former MK Dons head coach has turned the team from a legitimate relegation contender to a strong contender for the current League One championship. In fact, Oxford is currently only three points behind Pompey, who is leading the table.

On November 18, the Blues were scheduled to play their closest competitors for the League One championship; however, due to international call-ups, the match was rescheduled. Although a new date for the match has not yet been announced, all signs point to the U’s getting a new head coach when it is rescheduled.

The following league match for Oxford is on Saturday at Leyton Orient. On Saturday, the U’s defeated Maidenhead United 2-0 in the FA Cup’s opening round in what appears to be Manning’s final game as manager.

At the beginning of the season, Manning was a contender to succeed Danny Cowley at Fratton Park, but John Mousinho, a former U’s defender, beat him out for the position.
