Everyone like rankings, even though they don’t always have an impact on the NFL’s overall playoff system, which is used for the postseason.
It’s still entertaining to see how the teams compare, though. Every week, we’ll compare the Cowboys against the rest of the league by looking through a number of Power Rankings from the largest media sources.
After the Cowboys defeated the Eagles to win their fifth straight game, let’s see where they stand.
ESPN: 1. San Francisco 2.) Baltimore Dallas Cowboys (3.) -What’s the most significant advancement? We could claim that the passing game in particular and the overall offense have improved dramatically from where the Cowboys were following their Week 5 loss to San Francisco. The Cowboys converted seven of their 19 red zone possessions into scores (36.8%) in the first five games. They have now converted 25 of 38 chances into touchdowns. Dak Prescott, the quarterback, has been an excellent fit for coach Mike McCarthy’s playcalling. You lead the NFL in scoring (32.3 points per game) in this manner. — Todd Archer
NFL.com: San Francisco, 1. Baltimore, 2.) The Dallas Cowboys (#3) Mike McCarthy appeared relatively well for someone who had just been operated on a few days before as he loped up to signal a timeout before Dallas’ score that put them ahead 24-6 at the half against archrival Philadelphia. With a 60-yard field goal in the first quarter and a successful TD-notching challenge at the goal line in the second, McCarthy made all the correct calls in the first half of the game on Sunday night. After then, things cooled off, but in the end, the Cowboys made a strong statement by indicating that they are real contenders for both the NFC East title and the No.The NFC playoffs’ top overall seed. Dallas needed a great win, and they now have two more games, at Buffalo and Miami, so the work isn’t done, especially with the Eagles’ remaining slate being much more favorable. – Edholm Eric
CBS Sports: San Francisco (first) 2.) Dallas Cowboys – “This week, they travel to the Bills for another difficult test after defeating the Eagles on Sunday night. Dak Prescott is making a lot of effort to win MVP. — Pete Prisco
Fox Sports 1.) San Francisco 2.) Dallas Cowboys – “The Cowboys’ ability to grind down the 10-win Eagles into a fine powder was the most stunning triumph of Week 14. Dallas won by 20 points despite Dak Prescott not even playing at his peak level. The offense, defense, and special teams all performed well at the same time. But now is not the time for disappointment. The next major hurdle is to defeat Josh Allen and the Bills.” — David Helman
