Billy McKinney was transferred by the New York Yankees to the Pittsburgh Pirates, barely one week after the outfielder had re-signed.
Just one week after inking a minor-league contract with the Yankees, McKinney is expected to take on a more significant role in Pittsburgh, despite first appearing to be an addition to the team’s depth.
The 29-year-old was acquired by the Pirates for an unknown sum of foreign signing bonus money.

Though he initially looked like a depth addition for the organization, McKinney is anticipated to play a bigger part in Pittsburgh, only one week after signing a minor-league contract with the Yankees.
The Pirates paid an undisclosed amount of foreign signing bonus money to get the 29-year-old.
Stanton has been dealing with ailments for years, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently revealed that Stanton was trying to lose weight this offseason.
During the winter meetings, Boone stated, “I think you’re going to see a leaner Giancarlo. He’s always in great shape, but being a little lighter is going to be something that serves him well.”
I believe it’s something he wants to accomplish and is aware of. I predict that Big G will be even more subdued.
“Hopefully, that makes him more athletic on the bases and makes him not just an outfield option, but a good outfield option.” I believe that’s something he values highly.
