Joe Mazzulla and the Boston Celtics are in for a long night.

The Celtics’ home court turned into a house of horrors once again Friday night, as they fell behind Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat 2-0 in the series with a 111-105 loss at TD Garden.

Even Jayson Tatum’s game-high 34 points were insufficient to preserve Boston.

Mazzulla and the Celtics suffered yet another late-game collapse after appearing to seize control early in the fourth quarter with a 12-point advantage. But, like they have done so frequently recently, the Heat made their run, and Boston was unable to respond.

Throughout the playoffs, the Celtics’ poor late-game execution and inability to respond to runs has been a recurring issue. And facing an advantageous team like Miami, which thrives in such scenarios, has been a formula for catastrophe.

Mazzulla’s refusal to use timeouts in important situations was on display once again as the Heat rallied from a late-game deficit in a matter of minutes.

He also took Tatum out for a couple of crucial fourth-quarter moments for the Heat’s comeback.

The 34-year-old first-year coach’s inexperience has never been more apparent than in this series against Erik Spoelstra and his all-star coaching staff.

Following the loss, the Boston faithful let him know on

Jaylen Brown and Grant Williams were also held responsible for the loss.

Brown took a lot of heat for having a terrible shooting night by his standards. He ended with 16 points on 7-of-23 field shooting and 1-of-7 three-point shooting, four rebounds, and two turnovers.

Williams, for his part, did what some in the industry call “giving Dillon Brooksing a game away” by prodding the beast. He got caught up in a trash talking match with Butler with a few minutes left in the fourth quarter and lost.

Butler and Bam Adebayo led the Heat once again, finishing with 27 and 22 points, respectively. They also received a significant help from Caleb Martin off the bench, who had 25 points and four rebounds.

The series will now shift to South Beach for Games 3 and 4, with the Celtics attempting to avoid falling behind 3-0.
