Coady bellinger trade to Baltimore Orioles to be completed in 24hours

Both organisations announced that infielder Nick Maton was purchased by the Orioles from the Tigers for monetary considerations. The O’s have made a deal for an infielder who was cut from the Detroit club twice in as many weeks. Following his DFA, Baltimore also acquired Tyler Nevin back in a monetary trade in January. Once more, they’ll give the Tigers money to bypass the waiver order and bolster their infield depth.

The 27-year-old Maton had a rough year in Detroit last year. He was acquired by the Tigers from the Phillies over the winter as part of a three-player trade for hard-throwing reliever Gregory Soto. Despite having some success early in the season, Maton had trouble on both sides of the ball. During a career-high 293 plate appearances, he hit.173/.288/.305 with eight home homers. Additionally, he committed a few costly defensive blunders and was graded as

Not surprisingly, given the sub-replacement level production, someone was ready to take a chance on Maton. After being sent to Triple-A as a midseason voluntary assignment, he performed admirably, hitting.293/.414/.457 in 38 minor league games. Maton has displayed an extremely patient attack.

 

Baltimore already has a strong collection of infield talent. Nevin and Maton join Gunnar HendersonRyan O’HearnJordan WestburgRyan MountcastleJorge Mateo and Ramón Urías on the 40-man roster. Baltimore shipped out Joey Ortiz in the Corbin Burnes trade but is expected to add Jackson Holliday to the MLB team early in the year, perhaps on Opening Day.
