Roy Hodgson ‘stable’ after being taken ill during Crystal Palace training

Following his illness on Thursday morning at Crystal Palace’s training ground, Roy Hodgson is being evaluated in the hospital and is considered “stable.”
The players and coaching staff were shocked and alarmed by the incident, which happened near the end of a training session that Hodgson was supervising.
The Premier League matchup between Palace and Everton was scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm on Monday. However, Palace announced shortly before 1 pm (GMT) that Hodgson’s pre-match press conference had been postponed.

“Following news that Roy Hodgson was taken ill during today’s training session, we can confirm that he is now stable and is currently undergoing tests in hospital,” the club said in a statement issued shortly before 5 p.m.Roy has the best wishes of the entire club for a quick recovery.
Hodgson’s health has been a source of concern this season on multiple occasions. He was sick on the morning of Palace’s September match against Aston Villa, so he was unable to play.

For weeks, Hodgson’s future at Palace has been a matter of conjecture; according to The Athletic, Palace is expected to sever ties with him. Oliver Glasner, the head coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, is the front-runner to succeed him.
Palace finished the season with seven points from their first four games, but they have only won three since September. Everton also eliminated Palace from the FA Cup in the third round.

Chelsea lost 3-1 at home on Monday night, their fourth loss in five games. The previous weekend, they were humiliated 4-1 at the Amex Stadium by their bitter rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, and some of the away fans demanded that Hodgson and chairman Steve Parish quit the team.
After Patrick Vieira was fired in March 2023, Hodgson was reappointed to a short-term contract, beginning his second stint at Palace. He signed a one-year contract after leading the team out of the relegation zone with five wins and three draws in ten games, finishing 11 points above the drop zone.
