49ers Rumor: Trent Williams, returning from an ankle injury, will start against the Jaguars

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, left lineman Trent Williams, a 10-time Pro Bowler for the San Francisco 49ers, is listed as questionable for his team’s road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. However, he will start after missing the previous two games due to a right ankle injury.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the 49ers will decide on [Williams] close to Sunday. He’s not a lock to play because of his pain, but he’ll give it his all against the Jaguars.”

Williams practiced seldom on Thursday and Friday after missing practice on Wednesday.

The initial diagnosis for Williams’ injury was a low-ankle sprain, as 49ers Webzone’s David Bonilla pointed out. In a conversation with reporters on November 8, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged that the injury is not as simple as it seems.

“Yes, it seems evident that there is. He has a long history with things, after all. It didn’t appear to be a high point or anything, but when you experience that over your career, there are a lot of things that, because of how long they’ve taken to heal, are more than just low points.”
Williams was hurt in the 49ers’ 19-17 loss against the Cleveland Browns on October 15 during the first quarter. After a short absence, he came back to complete the game.
The 49ers have not performed nearly as well in the three games they have lost after winning the first five when Williams is not healthy or active.

The 49ers will look to Jaylon Moore to shield quarterback Brock Purdy’s blindside if Williams is unable to play. In Williams’ absence, the Western Michigan native, a third-year professional, has started the last two games.

On Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, the 6-2 Jags will be the opponents.
