Following their defeat by Fulham, Steven Gerrard was fired as head coach of Aston Villa.
Together with the teammates, Gerrard rode the Villa team coach back to the Midlands. He was supposed to bid the team farewell when they got back to their training facility at Bodymoor Heath.Thursday night’s 3-0 loss to Fulham was overseen by the 42-year-old, and an hour after the game ended, Villa announced his resignation.After the Midlands club won just two of their first 11 Premier League games this season, he is leaving the team.
The Villa board admires Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, and he will be taken into consideration in the Gerrard replacement process.
In November 2021, Gerrard departed from Scottish team Rangers to assume leadership duties at Aston Villa.
However, in this calendar year, the former captain of England and Liverpool has overseen just eight victories. “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future,” a Villa statement stated.
“There is a lot of frustration there,” Gerrard said of his “big hitters” following a recent 1-1 stalemate against struggling Nottingham Forest. The forwards have accepted my challenge to contribute more to that part of the field. All we need is more quality from a few of our top players.
Despite his persistent optimism about turning around his team’s poor performance, a 2-0 loss to Chelsea was followed by a 3-0 loss to Fulham. In Thursday night’s loss, Douglas Luiz was also sent off for a headbutt.
