Georgia Bulldog pair wins honours in….

ATHENS, Georgia — According to a league statement released on Wednesday, Micah Larry and Christopher Morales Williams of Georgia track and field have both been awarded the annual Southeastern Conference outdoor awards.

Men’s Runner of the Year went to Morales Williams, a sophomore from Vaughan, Ontario, and Men’s Freshman Field Athlete of the Year went to Larry, a real freshman from Harvest, Alabama. Since the award’s establishment in 2004, Morales Williams is the first Bulldog to receive this recognition. Larry is the third student-athlete from Georgia to receive this honour; Maicel Uibo and Alex Poursanidis did it in 2013 and 2014, respectively, back-to-back.

This year, Morales Williams not only won the SEC indoor award but also the SEC 400-meter sprint outdoor title, setting a school, meet, and facility record of 44.05. This was Williams’ first time competing in the world. This performance ranked the 2024 NCAA indoor champion as the sixth-best outdoor collegiate performer of all time. At 44.91 and 45.18, Morales Williams won both of his regular season matches. Morales Williams qualified for the NCAA final rounds at last week’s NCAA East Prelims in Lexington, Kentucky, with a 45.03. Larry’s personal best long jump resulted in a silver medal at the SEC Championships, measuring 7.80 meters/25 feet, 7 ½ inches. At that point, he was ranked No. 10 on UGA’s all-time roster and No. 3 among freshmen on the 2024 NCAA list.
