Before the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder began their second-round playoff series, Jason Kidd and the team took care of some business.
The organization revealed on Monday that the head coach had agreed to a
multiyear contract extension.
Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont said in a statement, “We are thrilled to have Coach Kidd continue to lead our team throughout the coming years with this well-earned contract extension.” “Kidd led our team to two playoff appearances in three seasons, and we are looking forward to his leadership in continuing to build and grow this already great franchise.”
After a Hall of Fame playing career and assistant coaching stints with the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Lakers, Kidd is currently in his third season with the Mavericks.
In his first season as Dallas’ head coach, 2021–22, he assisted in leading the Mavs to a 52–30 record and a trip to the Western Conference finals. After an unpredictable 2022–23 season, the squad finished with a 38–44 record and missed the playoffs.
This season, Kidd and the Mavs made it back to the postseason, eliminating the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round with a 114-101 victory in Game 6 on Friday in Dallas.
it is not replicable. He has gained the respect and confidence of both our players and a great deal of people in the league, and I am excited to collaborate with him as we continue to strengthen the winning culture and foundation he has helped to establish during his time as head coach.”
The Mavericks will next travel to Oklahoma City to begin their second-round series against the Thunder, who are ranked first. The first game will start on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. CT.
