Coventry City are expecting to welcome midfielders Callum O’Hare and Jamie Allen back to training next week, according to Coventry Live journalist Andy Turner.

Coventry new players

The midfield duo have been out for some time, but are set to return, with Jamie Allen in particular close to returning to the matchday squad, providing a substantial boost to Mark Robins’ side.

Starting with Callum O’Hare, the playmaker sustained an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury against Stoke City in the Championship last December and has yet to return to group training since surgery.

What is the reason for their absence?

Meanwhile, Jamie Allen suffered a significant heart problem during the off-season, causing him to miss the whole Sky Blues pre-season, and although exercising frequently, he hasn’t played for the club since last season’s play-off final.

Was a Hamer replacement needed?

Some Coventry fans were hoping for a midfielder to come on deadline day, but were disappointed when the team only signed defender Liam Kitching.

With Yasin Ayari on loan, Callum O’Hare and Jamie Allen on the verge of returning, and Joel Latibeaudiere capable of covering the midfield, a replacement for Gustavo Hamer did not appear to be a priority for the Sky Blues.

Sky Blues fans gets Boosts

Callum O’Hare is certainly one of the club’s fan favorites and will give greater final-third skills. Last season, he appeared in 11 games and had three assists.

Similarly, Jamie Allen enjoyed the best season of his professional career last year, appearing in 42 games across all competitions, scoring seven goals and assisting on two more. He was one goal away from becoming the third player in league history to have double-digit goals and assists, joining Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres.

The writer’s opinion

As a Sky Blues fan, seeing Jamie Allen and Callum O’Hare on the verge of returning to the squad is a significant boost to the club’s midfield options this season.

O’Hare will undoubtedly seem like a new addition to Coventry City fans, whilst Allen slipped under the radar last season and will be another boost to Mark Robins’ team.
