INJURY: Reading youngstar misses the rest of the season

NEWS : A Reading rookie will miss the remainder of the campaign with serious knee injury.

Due to a damaged patella tendon, young Saints striker Dom Ballard is anticipated to miss the remainder of the year.

With a potentially serious injury, he was replaced during Reading’s November 25 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

During the first half of the League One match, the England youth international was stretchered while wearing an oxygen mask.

It has now been disclosed by Reading manager Ruben Selles how serious Ballard’s injury is; surgery is necessary.

“He broke his patella tendon,” he remarked. If there is any positive to be found in it, it is that the patella is the only part of the knee that is damaged.

“We are coordinating with Southampton to get ready for his surgery and the following steps.” Both as a player and a boy, he is amazing.

“As you can see, he is very essential to us. It is unfortunate that we cannot utilize him for the remainder of the season, but he will have a very strong career.

“We hope he recovers quickly and can continue playing for the next fifteen years. We’re going to be available for him in any way.

Ballard scored an 11-minute hat-trick for the England Under-19s against Mexico earlier this month. He has three goals in 10 league games for the Royals.
