AMAZING NEWS: It seems that Mankato is defeated by the grapplers from Augie.

Dakota News Now (Sioux Falls, SD) – The Augustana wrestling team (13-5 overall, 7-1 NSIC) defeated Minnesota State (5-5, 2-4) 28-15 on Saturday afternoon inside the Elmen Center thanks to six wins, five of which were bonus points.

 

Having won four straight games with bonus points, the Vikings got the afternoon underway. At 125 pounds, Jaxson Rohman was the beginning of it all. With a takedown and four nearfall points, Rohman got things started. He recorded another takedown after letting an escape, then secured a first period pin to put AU ahead 6-0.

Jack Huffman led 6-1 going into the second quarter at 133 after starting the bout with two takedowns. Huffman would proceed to secure two takedowns and an escape to wrap up a

significant choice and extend the Viking lead to 10-0.

At 141, Hunter Burnett was unstoppable; he took an early lead and never looked back. In order to complete the tech fall and shutout victory, he went on to gather four nearfall points at three different times.

AU had a 15-0 lead after Burnett’s victory, and Cael Larson at 149 did not want to miss out on the excitement. Larson secured four takedowns in the opening frame and added two more in the closing frame. He finished the fight with a reversal to complete the tech fall and give the Vikings a 20-0 lead. He was ahead by 13 heading into the third period.

Connor Simmonds, weighing 157 pounds, carried on the winning streak for AU. Simmonds took an early takedown and led 3-2 into the second frame. Simmonds trailed 4-3 after the second, but in the nick of time, he secured a decision and put the Vikings ahead 23-0 at the half with a takedown and riding point.

Max Ramberg, weighing 197 pounds, stopped the Maverick momentum in a commanding manner following three straight defeats. In addition to adding a riding time after more than four minutes on top to tack on five more to the AU lead, Ramberg picked up three takedowns, four nearfall points, and an escape.
