Holger Rune parts ways with coach Severin Luthi after brief collaboration

Less than two months after bringing the former Swiss Davis Cup captain to his club, Holger Rune has called it quits on his working relationship with coach Severin Luthi.

The young Dane’s manager and mother, Aneke Rune, told the Danish daily “Ekstra Bladet” about the breakup, stating that schedule conflicts were the main cause.

“I just wanted to let you know that Holger’s coaching staff will going forward only consist of Boris and Kenneth. The timing with Severin was obviously off, but I don’t want to make a big issue out of it,” Aneke remarked.
“Severin wouldn’t be able to provide the continuity that Holger needs in just a few weeks,” she went on.
As a result of the coaching staff reorganization, Boris Becker and Danish former professional Kenneth Carlsen will now be Rune’s only mentors.

Aneke said, “Holger gets the flow he wants for his development and stability with… Boris and Kenneth.”

“For Holger, it is entirely appropriate to broaden the intended partnership with Kenneth, who he also trained with on multiple occasions during his junior year.”

Luthi is well known for having coached Roger Federer and captaining Switzerland during their 2014 Davis Cup victory.
After adding Boris Becker to his coaching staff earlier in the year, Rune made the appointment of Luthi in December of last year. This move garnered notice since it seemed the Dane was putting together a group of coaches with past ties to the Big Three.
