Following charges against Nottingham Forest for allegedly violating the Premier League’s profit and sustainability criteria (PSR), Arsenal may have to make an unforeseen transfer choice. Along with Everton, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team was one of two teams accused of breaking the regulations.
Following their promotion through the play-offs in 2022, Forest went on a historic transfer signing binge. Since rejoining the Premier League, the East Midlands club has brought in 43 players and, in an attempt to balance the books, traded standout midfielder Brennan Johnson to Tottenham in the summer.

Arsenal’s center back In an effort to get Nuno Tavares consistent playing time in the top division, Forest signed him to a loan during the last transfer window. The 23-year-old played in the first three league games for Forest, but he has since only played in the FA Cup. Before the end of the month, he may return to Arsenal.

Forest is taking a “cautious” stance during the January transfer window after being accused of a PSR violation, according to a story from The Telegraph. This will entail making attempts to cut a number of periphery players, with Tavares’ loan move being identified as one scenario that would be “reviewed” when the transfer window comes to a conclusion.
Tavares’ £12 million buyout option was part of the contract that brought him to the City Ground, but considering his lack of playing time and Forest’s financial situation, it seems doubtful that it will be exercised. The right-back played for Arsenal for 28 games in the 2021–2022 season before spending the previous campaign at Marseille.
