Front offices all across the circuit are determining how much they want to get in that game as the NBA trade deadline on Thursday draws closer every hour.
According to a league source who spoke to Heavy Sports, “teams are having some pretty serious meetings to figure out where they really are.” They need to be honest with themselves now. Something along the lines of, “Do we really stand a chance to win this year?” That conversation has been going on in my place for a while now. It’s the owner, the financial people, the basketball operations people, and the coaches.
“It can be difficult to be honest with yourself, but you must.”
Compared to other league locations, Boston might be a little easier. Despite their lack of presence against the Lakers without LeBron James last Thursday, the Celtics are not required to play this week.
One general manager stated, “It definitely didn’t look good for a team that needs to prove it’s tough enough to fight all the way through the playoffs.” However, I would try to trade my entire team five or six times a year if I overreacted to every game. Teams these days operate in the same manner. You start missing three-pointers when a team you don’t think belongs on the floor with you starts making shots.
